Clinton Pushes Semi-Auto Ban as Public Rejects Gun Bans in Record Numbers
Hillary Clinton has made clear that she would make gun control a top priority of her presidency, and has pointed to a new ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms as one of her chief goals. At a June 17, 2014 CNN “town hall” event, Clinton was asked, “Do you think that reinstating the ban on assault weapons and banning high capacity magazines would do any good?” Clinton affirmed her support for a ban, and stated, “We cannot let a minority of people -- and that's what it is, it is a minority of people -- hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people.” Clinton’s team might want to rework this line of attack, as a Gallup poll released this week shows that a record number, and a majority, of Americans oppose a ban on popular semi-automatic firearms.

New York Attorney General Publishes Phony “Trafficking” Study With Flawed, Incomplete Data
This week, the New York Attorney General’s Office, led by Eric T. Schneiderman, released a report entitled “Target on Trafficking: New York Crime Gun Analysis” (the report). The report – accompanied by an interactive website – uses ATF trace data to attempt to build a case that the “lax” gun laws of other states lead to firearms being illegally “trafficked” into New York, which has some of the nation’s strictest firearms laws. It then goes on to insist that Congress and even other states must pass additional gun control to secure New York’s “right” to “gun safety.”

Bloomberg’s “Scientists” Hoping to “Disprove” Your Fundamental Rights
On October 15, a group of researchers at the Michael Bloomberg funded Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research did what they are paid to do: deliver “evidence” to support the necessity of banning guns. This time, they went after firearms on college campuses. Spoiler alert: they determined “the research” showed it’s a bad idea.

Proponents of gun control are fond of fiddling with terminology in an effort to make their “product” a better sell. “Gun control” has been rebranded as “gun safety,” new gun restrictions automatically are tagged with the prefix “common sense,” skeptical gun owners are “the gun lobby,” and “I support the Second Amendment” comes with the invisible caveat, “except when I don’t.”

Kane’s sentencing hearing was held Monday, where Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy sentenced the former attorney general to 10 to 23 months in prison.

Australian Politicians Clash over Lever-Action Shotgun
Despite reports of a government compromise last year, Australia is once again embroiled in a heated political battle over the fate of a popular lever-action shotgun. In August 2015, it was reported that New South Wales Liberal Democratic Senator David Leyonhjelm had secured a deal with Australia’s Liberal Party-led government of Prime Minister Tony Abbot for the removal of a temporary ban on the importation of a seven-round version of the Adler Arms A-110 shotgun, in exchange for his support on unrelated legislation. In September 2015, Malcolm Turnbull defeated Abbott for the leadership of the Liberal Party, becoming the 29th prime minister of Australia. Last week, Leyonhjelm accused the current Liberal leadership of reneging on the deal by keeping the import ban in place.
