Obama Releases Armed Drug Traffickers
Earlier this year, we reported on how President Obama’s much-ballyhooed executive clemency program was releasing felons who had been convicted of using firearms in drug trafficking crimes. We noted then the jarring inconsistency of this program with Obama’s executive gun control measures, which targeted hobbyists and collectors making occasional gun sales, licensed dealers, and even Social Security recipients.

Report: Law Enforcement Agencies Registering Vehicle Information of Gun Show Attendees
A report this week in the Wall Street Journal provides further indication of the Obama administration’s persecutory attitude toward America’s gun owners. The newspaper claimed emails from a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request show that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents used local police officers in Southern California to drive around the parking lot of a large gun show to “collect all of the cars’ information.”

DOJ IG Report Undermines Case for New Laws, Gun Control Narrative
On September 28, the Office of the Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Justice released a report titled, “Audit of the Handling of Firearms Purchase Denials Through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.” The report details the operations of the FBI’s NICS system with a focus on how the DOJ handles instances where a firearms transfer has been delayed or denied.

Another Resounding Victory for Firearm Rights
At the end of September, Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the United States District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands invalidated the majority of firearm restrictions challenged in a lawsuit in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). This is the same Chief Judge Manglona who earlier this year struck down the last handgun ban in the United States, in Radich v. Guerrero.

Record-Breaking Gun-Check Figures for 17th Consecutive Month
The latest data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on the number of firearm-related checks initiated through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) indicates that September 2016 set a new record, being the highest for any September since the NICS was instituted in 1998. This follows record-high figures throughout 2016: NICS data show that for the first six months of 2016, checks were up an amazing 32 percent over the same period in 2015. Moreover, firearm sales are likely to surge for the rest of 2016 in the months leading up to the holidays – the highest month on record for gun-related checks is December 2015, and the top three days of the highest number of NICS checks include Black Fridays in 2014 and 2015. It’s a safe bet that 2016 will be a banner year for firearm acquisitions.

Ruger Answers the Call for Freedom
When Bill Ruger, Sr. founded Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. in 1949, his newly minted company faced an uphill battle. Experts cast doubt that a new firearms company could stand up to the established name-brand gunmakers in an industry that was already viewed to be in a state of decline.   More than 60 years later, the Ruger name is respected around the world.  In the spirit of Bill Ruger, Ruger CEO Mike Fifer and President/COO Chris Killoy have taken a stand to not only provide customers with a great firearm, but to ensure their customers have the right to use them for years to come.
