UK Police Tell Subjects Not to Harm Their Attackers, Get a Rape Alarm
The latest dispatch from the United Kingdom’s ongoing campaign to eliminate all forms of armed self-defense seems too incredible to be true. Unfortunately, after tracking down the origin of a publicly distributed statement regarding self-defense products on the country’s “Ask the Police” website, we can confirm that British subjects continue to live at the mercy of their potential attackers.  Even to the point of baffling absurdity.

D.C. to Court: Don't Make Violent Criminals Face Armed Resistance
As we reported last week, a federal judge on May 18 barred enforcement of provisions of D.C. law that effectively grant to the police chief the discretion to decide who is eligible for D.C. concealed carry licenses and thus who may lawfully exercise the right to bear arms in public for self-defense. According to an article in the Washington Times, District officials on Tuesday asked the court to suspend that order, pending further proceedings in the case known as Wrenn v. District of Columbia.

Texas passes NRA backed Open Carry legislation
The National Rifle Association claims another victory for the law-abiding gun owners of Texas with the passage of House Bill 910. This landmark open-carry legislation, now headed to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk for his expected signature, will bring the total number of states recognizing the right of open-carry to 44."The NRA is proud to have played a leading role in the passage of Texas open carry legislation” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox. “The passage of this common sense law expands law abiding citizens' right to exercise their constitutional freedoms and affirms Texans' long tradition of supporting the Second Amendment.  On behalf of the NRA’s 5 million members, I want to thank bill sponsors Rep. Larry Phillips & Sen. Craig Estes for their tenacious fight to pass this important bill, as well as Senate and House leadership for getting this measure across the goal line."

Rep. Carolyn Maloney Flies Anti-gun Flag in U.S. House
Reliably anti-gun Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) has introduced two new rights-restricting bills in the U.S. House of Representatives. May 15 saw the introduction of H.R. 2380, the so-called “Gun Show Loophole Closing Act of 2015.” This bill would require background checks on all firearms transactions occurring at gun shows.  In the 1990s, gun control supporters began claiming that criminals were acquiring firearms at gun shows without having to go through background checks. However, repeated surveys of prison inmates who possessed firearms at the time of their offenses revealed that less than one percent acquired their firearms at gun shows.  This bill would do nothing more than burden lawful firearm transactions and take us one step closer to a national gun registry.
Anti-gun Locals Up in Arms Over Proposed Arlington Gun Store

Anti-gun Locals Up in Arms Over Proposed Arlington Gun Store
The Washington, D.C., suburb of Arlington, Va., is often touted as one of most well-educated municipalities in the country, having one of the highest rates of graduate degrees per capita and a well-regarded public school system. It’s a wonder, then, how so many residents of the city’s affluent Cherrydale neighborhood can be so ignorant and bigoted when it comes to firearms. Recently, some intrusive Cherrydale residents caused a stir when they discovered that local small businessman and Marine veteran James Gates had leased retail space in a neighborhood strip mall with the intent of using it for a gun store. The store would be the second location for Gates’s NOVA Firearms enterprise; the first being located in nearby McLean, Va. Gates intends to open the Arlington store in mid-August.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) has introduced a bill to modernize certain aspects of interstate firearms commerce. The Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act, H.R. 2246, would yield increased convenience and choice for consumers, while continuing to allow states to set their own policy regarding transfer and possession of firearms within their borders.
