Lawmakers Demand Halt of Obama Plan to Use Social Security to Restrict Gun Rights

This week, reports emerged that the Obama administration is advancing a plan to restrict gun rights by adding to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System Social Security beneficiaries who use a “representative payee” to assist in managing their financial affairs. In response, Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee and Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), the chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies, sent the following letter to Carolyn Colvin, the acting commissioner of Social Security, demanding that any such plan be abandoned.
