The Georgetown County School District will revisit a recent policy that prohibits the possession of firearms on school property. This comes after Attorney General Henry McMaster (R) released an opinion affirming that South Carolina law allows individuals with Right-to-Carry permits to possess a concealed firearm for self-defense on school property when it is inside a vehicle that is occupied or in a locked compartment of the vehicle.
The Georgetown School Board will reconsider the policy on Tuesday, January 5 at 7:00 P.M. in the Board Room at J. B. Beck Administration and Education Center located at 2018 Church Street in Georgetown. If you are able, please make plans to attend this hearing.
Please contact the School Board TODAY and respectfully urge them to repeal the ban on possessing a firearm by permit holders on school property. Contact information can be found below.
