The Wilkinsburg City Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve an ordinance requiring residents who own guns to report lost or stolen handguns within 24 hours of their disappearance. The ordinance will go into effect 10 days after it is signed by Mayor John Thompson, who said he expects to sign it this week. The National Rifle Association has sued Philadelphia and Pittsburgh over their ordinances, claiming they violate the state's Uniform Firearm Act, which prohibits entities other than the state from regulating firearms.
