NRA-PVF: Renzi Election Key to Preserving New York State Gun Rights

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Fairfax, VA-The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Dave Renzi for State Senate in New York’s 48th district. Dave Renzi has received an “A+”, NRA-PVF’s highest rating.

“Dave Renzi is the sportsmen's choice for New York state senate. He is a rock-solid supporter of the Second Amendment and will stand up for the rights of gun owners, hunters, and all freedom-loving New Yorkers,” said Wayne LaPierre, NRA's executive vice-president. “Electing Dave is absolutely key in preserving a pro-gun majority in the state senate and defending against a radical, anti-sportsmen agenda that will impose harsh restrictions on our Second Amendment rights and outdoor traditions.”

“As Senator, Dave Renzi will defend against a downstate liberal agenda that seeks to limit gun rights, restrict access for hunters and outdoorsmen and make it more difficult for New York sportsmen to enjoy their natural outdoor resources,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF.

By contrast, Renzi’s opponent, three-term Assemblyman Darrel Aubertine, was unable to block any of the anti-gun and anti-sportsmen legislation regularly passed in that house. These numerous anti-gun bills would have become law, except for the strong objection by the Senate’s Republican Majority.

Recently, Aubertine announced that he had formed a “caucus” of Upstate Democrats to represent the interests of rural New Yorkers and sportsmen. Unfortunately, that group includes some of the fiercest anti-gun members of the Senate who consistently receive low marks from NRA-PVF.

State Senate Democrats are poised, for the first time in more than half a decade, to seize control of every branch of New York state government. Shifting political control of the State Senate to the Democrats will mean the loss of the only dependable, pro-gun and pro-sportsmen legislative caucus in Albany.

“This year, the choice is clear. Sportsmen, hunters and gun owners can’t count on Darrel Aubertine to stop legislation that is ruinous to our way of life, but Dave Renzi is an “A+” defender of our Second Amendment freedoms,” concluded Cox. “I urge gun owners, hunters and sportsmen in New York’s 48th senate district to support Dave Renzi on November 4.”
