New York: Gov. Hochul Signs More Gun Control This Week

Gov. Kathy Hochul remains the scariest thing in Albany for law-abiding gun owners. On Wednesday, October 21 the anti-gun governor of the Empire State signed a pair of gun bills into law.

S.7236/A.7983 expands the scope of New York's existing mandatory storage law. The practical effect of this type of policy is that law-abiding citizens are put at a disadvantage as the new law requires stored firearms to be locked and unloaded.

A.1962B/S.9629 expands on the dubious ammunition background check system. This system has done more to prevent lawful gun owners and sportsmen from purchasing ammo then any practical public safety benefit.

It's easy to unmask these bills for what they are — political grandstanding. New Yorkers consistently rank public safety as a top issue, and it isn't because of the absence of gun laws in New York. The Governor's catch-and-release criminal justice system has created a revolving door that has made the streets of New York nearly unwalkable. Rather than continue the onslaught against law-abiding citizens in the name of "public safety," we would call on the Governor and her legislative allies to target actual criminals for a change.
