Chronic wasting disease--a deadly deer illness related to "mad cow"--has been discovered in two animals in New York state, the farthest east the infection has been found since its discovery in Colorado in 1967. No cases have been discovered in New Jersey or Pennsylvania, where results from the most recent hunting season have been announced, but the news from New York last week has hunters on edge.
