A sex criminal had already assaulted 78-year-old Fannie Mae
Hawthorne once in her Birmingham, Ala., duplex. When she awoke to
find the criminal, clad only in his underwear, in her bedroom again,
she pulled a .38 cal. revolver from under her pillow and fired,
killing the intruder.
