When one of the two men robbing his Ridgewood, N.Y., jewelry store was briefly distracted, William Zelnick grabbed a licensed .38 revolver and ordered the criminal to drop his weapon. When the crook answered with a shot, Zelnick returned fire, driving the pair from the store.
