New Hampshire: House Committee Hearing on the Right to Hunt Scheduled for Feb. 3.

New Hampshire: House Committee Hearing on the Right to Hunt Scheduled for Feb. 3.

On Tuesday, February 3, the New Hampshire House Committee on Fish and Game and Marine Resources will hold a hearing on a proposed constitutional amendment that would enshrine the right to hunt and fish. If passed in both chambers, the proposed amendment would be added to the ballot this fall, allowing Granite State voters and sportsmen to join the 24 other states in the US that adopted such amendments. Please contact members of the House Fish and Game Committee TODAY by using the TAKE ACTION button below and urge them to support CACR 15.

CACR 15 would create a constitutional right to hunt and fish and establish hunting and fishing by traditional methods as the primary means of maintaining healthy wildlife populations, subject to existing laws enacted by the New Hampshire General Court. This proposed amendment preserves the state's ability to ensure that the taking of game is done through currently recognized appropriate methods, consistent with wildlife management goals, and does not alter private property rights. But by strengthening the right to hunt and fish, a constitutional amendment offers substantial protection for sportsmen from legal or legislative attacks.

CACR 15’s prime sponsor, and chair of the Committee on Fish and Game, Rep. James Spillane, has reserved the main Representatives' Hall for the hearing in expectation of a large turnout for this hearing. The committee session will begin at 12:45 on Tuesday, February 3, and supporters are encouraged to attend in person.
