Mississippi: Sportsmen's Sales Tax Holiday Legislation Moving in Jackson

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Senate Bill 2425, sponsored by state Senator Philip Moran (R-Hancock, Harrison Counties), and House Bill 1539, sponsored by state Representative Jeff Smith (R-Lowndes County), passed in their respective money-related committees and will now be considered by each full legislative chamber.  Please call AND e-mail your state Senator and urge them to support SB 2425 and contact your state Representative and ask them to support HB 1539.

These measures would create a tax-free weekend in the Magnolia State during September for individual sales of firearms, ammunition, most hunting supplies and certain recreational fishing equipment.  Encouraging more Mississippians to get into the field or out on the water could increase the amount of Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson funds that the state Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks receives from the federal government for game and hatchery management, habitat conservation, hunter education, shooting range construction, fishing site access and fishery surveys.
