Arizona: Vote in Senate on Pro-Gun Bill Eligible Next Week

Friday, April 12, 2013

Contact your state Senator TODAY in support of House Bill 2455

Pro-gun legislation that would prohibit government-sponsored destruction of seized or surrendered firearms will be voted on next week by the Arizona Senate.  House Bill 2455, introduced by state Representative Brenda Barton (R-6), is an important pro-gun reform and your state Senator needs to hear from you TODAY that you support this much-needed improvement in the Grand Canyon State.

HB 2455 would require any firearms forfeited to or confiscated by a law enforcement agency to be sold to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder in exchange for money, new equipment or ammunition.  As a result, previously owned firearms collected would maintain their value and their sale to the public would help recover public funds when budgets are strained.  In a 36 to 23 vote, HB 2455 passed in the Arizona House of Representatives on March 7 and is now eligible for the Senate’s final approval after passing in the Senate Public Safety Committee by a 4 to 1 vote.

It is essential that we protect our Second Amendment rights and end government-sponsored destruction of seized or surrendered firearms.  Your state Senator needs to hear from you TODAY or this pro-gun legislation may fail.  Politely urge him or her to support HB 2455 and stop public resources and taxpayer funds from being used to destroy firearms.
