Governor Katie Hobbs (D) wasted no time vetoing Senate Bill 1058, once again putting anti-gun politics ahead of the rights and privacy of law-abiding Arizonans.
Senate Bill 1058, authored by Senator Wendy Rogers (R-LD7), would have safeguarded the privacy of firearm purchasers by prohibiting the use of firearm-specific merchant category codes (MCCs) by payment processors. Preventing discrimination against gun owners and Second Amendment businesses by protecting their financial privacy.
Instead of standing with Arizona citizens, Governor Hobbs sided with the growing effort to normalize financial surveillance of gun owners. Lawful firearm ownership is not a suspicious activity, and exercising a constitutional right should not place citizens into a politically motivated tracking system.
