Louisiana: St. Helena Parish Sheriff Threatens Gun Rights of Local Citizens

Friday, July 1, 2011

The NRA has received information that St. Helena Parish Sheriff Nathaniel Williams has threatened to jail law-abiding Louisianans for merely possessing semi-automatic rifles in their vehicles.  Louisiana law does not prohibit Louisianans from possessing firearms, including an AR-15 or similar semi-automatic rifle in their vehicle.

The NRA strongly opposes any action that illegitimately denies law-abiding individuals the right to keep and bear arms or subjects them to harassment or intimidation for engaging in legal firearm-related behavior.

In response to obvious concerns from our membership, the NRA sent the following letter to Sheriff Nathaniel Williams, which can be found here.
