Today, June 10, Governor Jeff Landry signed House Bill 289, to enhance and strengthen protections for firearm and ammunition industry members in Louisiana.
NRA thanks Governor Landry, author Representative Dewith Carrier, co-author Representative Troy Romero, Senator Heather Cloud, and the legislators who supported this bill.
HB 289, authored by Rep. Dewith Carrier, is a pro-Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) bill that further protects the firearm and ammunition industry from being held responsible for the third-party misuse of products they manufacture or sell. This legislation makes Louisiana a more attractive environment for firearm and ammunition-related businesses.
In addition, the legislature gave final passage to three more pro-gun bills: SB 101, HB 393, and HB 407. The bills now head to Governor Landry's desk for his consideration.
SB 101, authored by Sen. Blake Miguez, ensures constitutional carriers and out-of-state concealed carry permit holders who have reciprocity with Louisiana can carry firearms in more areas across the state by eliminating some gun-free zones.
HB 393, authored by Rep. Dennis Bamburg, clarifies the present law recognizing the rights of a bystander or spectator to carry a concealed handgun at a parade or demonstration.
HB 407, authored by Rep. Lauren Ventrella, allows non-residents to apply for and obtain a Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit.
