House Bill 516, gun owner privacy protection legislation, is stuck in the state House and needs your help! Sponsored by state Representative Micky Hammon (R-4), HB 516 would prohibit medical practitioners from requiring patients to divulge information about private firearm ownership. HB 516 would then bar them from denying medical care to patients who refuse to disclose such information about firearms, ammunition or storage methods. Some legislators are delaying a vote on HB 516 and are even considering an anti-gun amendment in order to appease the medical community over your right to privacy and to own a firearm.
The Alabama Legislature returns from a two-week recess on Tuesday, May 24. In order for HB 516 to be considered by the Alabama Senate in a timely fashion, the state House must pass this legislation by Thursday, May 26.
Please contact your state Representative and respectfully urge him or her to SUPPORT HB 516 without any anti-gun amendments. All state Representatives can be contacted by calling (334) 242-7600. Further contact information for your state Representative can be found here.
