The 2026 Alabama Legislature adjourned Sine Die yesterday, marking the end of the state’s regular legislative session.
During the session, lawmakers considered measures impacting the rights of Alabama gun owners and sportsmen. Among them was House Bill 360, legislation that would have established an annual Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday.
HB 360 would have exempted the gross proceeds from the sale of firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies from state sales and use tax each year, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on the last Friday in August and ending at midnight the following Sunday. The bill advanced from the Senate Finance and Taxation Education Committee on April 7 but did not receive a vote on the Senate floor before the legislature adjourned.
