Committee Hearing on State of Emergency Bill Tomorrow in Colorado

Senate Bill 53, introduced by state Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), has been scheduled for a hearing in the Colorado Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, February 2, at 1:30 p.m. 

This legislation eliminates the authority of the governor to suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation of firearms during a state of disaster emergency.  State lawmakers thought they addressed this issue years ago, but it was discovered that a drafting oversight actually left a component of the old law on the books.  During session last February, this committee defeated similar legislation on a partisan 3-2 vote.
