69-year-old Peter Gilmore and his 25-year-old son James McGlone were at home in Port Charlotte, Fla. when a pair of masked robbers, armed with a tire iron and knife, kicked in their front door. One of the masked men threatened Gilmore with his knife, causing McGlone to rush to his father’s room to retrieve a gun. McGlone was chased by the tire-iron wielding criminal, who struck him over the head with it. Despite the hit, McGlone retrieved a handgun and fired it at his attacker, striking him in the stomach, which caused him and knife-wielding accomplice to flee. A short time later, police received a report of a man with a gun shot wound seeking medical attention at a home in a nearby neighborhood. The unwounded criminal has been taken into custody and police plan to do the same with his accomplice once he is released from the hospital.
