On Thursday, May 21, the Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 52, while the House has scheduled a debate for SB 52’s companion bill, House Bill 128, on Wednesday, May 27.
SB 52 and HB 128, sponsored by State Senator Robert Marionneaux (D-17) and State Representative Cameron Henry (R-82), would recognize the importance of the Second Amendment by authorizing a ‘sales tax holiday’ on firearms purchased during the annual Second Amendment weekend. SB 52 would also extend the holiday to hunting supplies and ammunition. Both bills will not only benefit gun owners, but will help promote business for firearms manufacturers and retailers.
