APPEARS IN Gun Laws

The State, Columbia, S.C. 03/09/09

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

A pizza deliveryman in Lexington County, S.C. was lured into an ambush when three men called for a pizza with the intent of robbing the deliveryman. As the deliveryman approached the house the criminals had lured him to, one of the criminals approached and asked for change for a $100 bill. The criminal then started hitting the deliveryman. At the same time, two more criminals that had been hiding in ambush began to approach the deliveryman. The deliveryman, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew his .45 caliber pistol and shot the first attacker, killing him and causing the other two to flee. Sheriff James Metts noted that the deliveryman acted within his rights stating, “At this point in time, his actions look very appropriate.” The two criminals who fled the scene were later arrested and charged with robbery. Sheriff Metts went on to say “This sends a loud message to the criminal element — you don’t know who’s going to be armed and who’s not going to be armed when you go to rob someone.”
