Virginia Senate Expected to Vote on Gun Show Background Check Bill on Wednesday!

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Please Contact the Virginia State Senate Courts of Justice Committee Today!

On Monday, January 21, the Senate Courts of Justice Committee delayed taking action on Governor Tim Kaine's (D) attack on private firearms transactions. A vote on the measure, (Senate Bill 109), is expected to take place on Wednesday, January 23.

Federal and state law already requires federally licensed firearms dealers to conduct a background check on all prospective purchases.  This legislation is simply a first step toward requiring government approval before individuals may sell their private property, even between family and friends.

Please be sure to contact the members of the Senate Courts of Justice Committee Members and strongly encourage them to protect Virginia's lawful gun shows and private transactions by voting against SB109!
