Last summer at a match in Tennessee, Mark Schronce did something that stood out even in the small fraternity of elite long-distance shooting fanatics. Shooting at a 600-yard target, the 48-year-old from Pulaski, Va., scored 54 of a possible 55 points, putting five shots in a group measuring less than 2 inches at its widest point.
