HB 1822 is not an attempt to protect Washington’s hunting lands. This is a back door plan to erode hunting by placing unnecessary restrictions on sportsmen. A ban on lead shot will raise the price of ammunition to an unacceptably high level, forcing sportsmen out of the field. Also, many older shotguns are incompatible with non-lead shot; therefore, sportsmen would need to purchase new firearms or stop hunting altogether.
If lead shot is banned, it is only a matter of time before anti-hunting groups begin pushing for a complete ban on all lead ammunition. Please contact your legislators at 1-800-562-600 and respectfully urge them to vote NO on HB 1822 and reiterate your opposition to all anti-gun and anti-hunting legislation.
