Bernard Crohn was at work in the back office of a Portland, Oreg., jewelry store when he was startled to hear a man out front announce a holdup. Crohn quietly drew a pistol from a desk drawer, stepped out, and yelled "Freeze!" The armed robber immediately fired at Crohn but missed. Crohn returned fire, mortally wounding the robber.
