Ask yourself, if preserving our Second Amendment rights isn’t worth volunteering a few hours of your time, what is?

eBay Update:  As we reported last week, a spokesman for eBay has announced that the company will be banning the sale of all gun-and-ammunition-related parts and components on its online auction and shopping website.

With this action, eBay sends the clear message that they don’t want or appreciate law-abiding gun owners’ business.  By banning these legal products, eBay is adopting the anti-gun movement’s opposition to all legal gun ownership.  Fortunately--as we also mentioned last week--gun owners and sportsmen have alternatives.

In addition to the companies we previously mentioned who operate websites designed for the buying and selling of firearms and related products, we include http://www.gunsinternational.com/.

STATE ROUNDUP (please click to see any updates on states not listed below.)

ARKANSAS/LOUISIANA:  Reciprocity Agreement Reached Between Arkansas and Louisiana!  Last week, the Arkansas State Police and the Louisiana State Police reached a reciprocity agreement, which provides that each state will recognize the other’s “Right-To-Carry” permits.  Permit holders must still comply with the laws that apply in whichever state they are traveling.

MISSOURI:  Missouri’s “Hunting Heritage Protection Act” Being Undermined!  On July 3, 2007 Governor Matt Blunt (R) signed Senate Bill 225, the “Hunting Heritage Protection Areas Act”into law. Now, NRA members are anxiously awaiting the bill’s effective date of August 28. Since passage in the closing days of Missouri’s regular session, the Missouri Municipal League (MML) has undermined NRA members' hard work on SB 225, by urging all cities that do not currently have restrictions on hunting and the discharge of firearms to enact such ordinances prior to the effective date of Senate Bill 225.  Now, the MML is also trying to influence your local Park District board to undermine SB 225!  Please be sure to monitor your city government and Park District meeting and agenda announcements and alert NRA-ILA of any proposal that seeks to restrict hunting and sport shooting. Please forward any information to Kris Koenen at [email protected] or (703) 267-1209.

Missouri Cities Take Aim at Your Second Amendment Rights and Hunting Heritage! On Thursday, August 2, the City of Maryland Heights enacted a far-reaching, ominous ordinance that bans all discharge of firearms within the city limits.  The City Council has effectively stripped gun owners of their ability to shoot recreationally, hunt and defend themselves and their loved ones from a violent attack! That’s right, under the new ordinance, even the discharge of a firearm in self-defense is banned in Maryland Heights!Regardless of whether you reside in Maryland Heights, please contact the Mayor and City Council Members immediately and urge them to reconsider this misguided and unconstitutional measure. Encourage them to stand up for your Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage by repealing the citywide ban on the discharge of firearms. Be sure to pass this information along to your family, friends and fellow Second Amendment supporters and urge them to do the same!  For contact information for the Mayor and City Council Members, please click here.

Hazelwood City Council Attempting To Ban Hunting And Firearms Discharge!  Please make plans to attend this important city council meeting to be held Wednesday, August 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hazelwood City Hall located at 415 Elm Grove Lane, Hazelwood, 63042-1917.  The Hazelwood City Council is considering a far-reaching proposal that bans all discharge of firearms within the city limits, even where it is safe to do so.   This proposal effectively strips gun owners of their ability to shoot recreationally, hunt and defend themselves and their loved ones outside of their homes from a violent attack!  If you are unable to attend this city council meeting, please contact the city officials listed below and urge them to protect your right to self-defense and your hunting heritage by rejecting any proposal that bans the discharge of firearms!  Contact information for city officials can be found by clicking here.

NEW JERSEY:  New Jersey State Police Seeking to Enact Further Firearms Restrictions by Regulation  Law-abiding firearm owners have until Friday, August 17 to voice their opposition to the new rules and the New Jersey State Police Superintendent needs to hear from you today!  The New Jersey State Police recently issued new rule proposals for the regulation of firearms, magazines, and retailers.  If approved, these regulations will have the force of law without ever being debated by our legislators in Trenton, turning thousands of unsuspecting citizens into felons!

PENNSYLVANIA:  Ellwood City Council Approves Anti-Gun Amendment   The Ellwood City Council approved an amendment to the City Code of Ordinances by making it unlawful for any person other than a certified law enforcement officer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or another state, or the Federal Government to possess a gun, firearm, or weapon in any Borough building, real estate, vehicle or equipment.  This ordinance is a direct violation of the state preemption law enacted by the Pennsylvania State Legislature.  Please call  (724) 758-777 and respectfully urge Mayor Don Clyde (D) to veto this anti-gun amendment and ask the members of the Ellwood City Council to abstain from any further action.

VIRGINIA:  Goochland County Reinstates Restrictions on Recreational Shooting!  The Goochland County Board of Supervisor gave in to the County Attorney and voted to reinstate an ordinance that requires commercial shooting ranges to obtain a “Conditional Use” permit.   Please contact the Goochland County Board of Supervisors and urge them to take every step necessary to ensure that any change to the zoning ordinance does not apply to private ranges.  For contact information for the Goochland County Board of Supervisors, please click here.
