MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT--
PROVE THE MEDIA WRONG!

Four days from now, Tuesday, November 7, is Election Day!  It is the day when all of our hard work will pay off as NRA members and gun owners go to the polls across the nation to elect all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 33 U.S. Senators, 36 Governors, and thousands of state and local elected officials.

While some pundits and pollsters may be predicting disaster for our candidates, don’t believe it!  Their goal is to hoodwink you into believing that the elections are already over and your vote won’t matter.  Don’t let this political propaganda dissuade you and your fellow lovers of freedom from exercising your right to vote on Tuesday!

Remember, the only poll that will matter is the one released when the polls close Tuesday and the voters have spoken!

For those who tell you that your one vote won’t make a difference, consider the following:

In 1845, ONE VOTE brought Texas into the Union;

In 1878, ONE VOTE gave Rutherford B. Hayes the Presidency of the United States;

In 1941, ONE VOTE saved Selective Service-just weeks before Pearl Harbor was attacked;                                                                          -FL Div. Of Elections

In 1994, a race for the U.S. House was originally decided by four votes;

In 1998, a U.S. Senate race was decided by 400 votes out of 400,000 cast;

In 2002, an anti-gun candidate in a state primary race in AZ won by FIVE votes;

In 2003, one vote upheld the campaign finance “reform” law;

In 2004, the Washington Governor’s race was decided by 42 votes out of 2.8 million cast;

In January 2006, two votes sustained Gov. Doyle’s veto of Right-to-Carry in Wisconsin…AND OF COURSE…

Where would we be today if 537 gun owners in Florida’s 2000 presidential election felt their vote didn’t count???

Need additional motivation?  Go to www.givethemback.com, which has additional video and testimonials on the travesty that occurred in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when police and law enforcement confiscated lawfully-owned firearms--at precisely the time citizens needed them most for self-defense!  This website provides chilling video of the horrifying crimes committed against lawful New Orleans’ gun owners.

And, remember, this happened, in of all places, the State of Louisiana--the “Sportsmen’s Paradise!” While NRA has succeeded in passing a federal law to prevent this miscarriage of justice from happening again, you must keep in mind that this law can be overturned if Tuesday’s elections don’t go our way.

You can bet a United States House of Representatives led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.), or an anti-gun Senate emboldened with leaders like Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, and Ted Kennedy, would work to overturn this law and/or appoint federal judges who would no doubt work to strike it from the books.  If it could happen in Louisiana, with the “wrong” congressional leadership, it could happen anywhere!

The only thing standing between similar, future threats to our freedom is your vote Tuesday!

Please make sure you vote on Tuesday, November 7, and bring your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners to the polls with you.  If you have already voted early or via absentee ballot, please volunteer some time to the Election Day efforts of pro-gun candidates’ campaigns in your areas.

For candidate grades and endorsements, or to contact area campaigns or your local NRA-ILA Election Volunteer Coordinator to assist on Tuesday, please visit www.NRAPVF.org.

And as always, please share this information with your family, friends, and fellow firearm owners, as there is no time to waste!

Thank you very much for your efforts and on to victory Tuesday November 7!

“GIVE THEM BACK”

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, law-abiding citizens had their lawfully owned firearms confiscated by local officials!  When citizens needed protection the most, they were stripped of their right to self-defense.  As you’ve also read, President Bush recently signed NRA-backed legislation to ensure such travesties are never repeated.

NRA has launched a new web site-- www.givethemback.com --with shocking video coverage of New Orleans gun confiscations that you’ll never see on ABC, CBS, or NBC. This site gives gun owners a stark and brutal reminder of why we must defend our firearm freedoms with passion and vigilance, in Congress, in state legislatures, in the courts…AND ON ELECTION DAY.

This site makes it clear why gun owners can never sit on the sidelines during an election, and serves as a wake up call for every gun owner who thinks anti-gun politicians don’t have the nerve or the will to confiscate our guns.  And why they must be defeated before they ever get their hands on power!

Please be sure to visit www.givethemback.com today, and forward the link to your friends, family, and fellow gun owners.  Remember what happened in New Orleans, and let your voice be heard on Election Day--“Vote Freedom First” on November 7!  With your help, we’re going to make the first time in New Orleans the LAST time in America.

NEW JERSEY
On Monday, October 30, Governor Jon Corzine (D) threatened to cancel this year's bear hunt by extending his deadline to readopt regulations.  He called for a bear management review to be conducted by New Jersey's Department of Environmental Protection's Commissioner, Lisa Jackson.  The new deadline is set for November 30.  Banned for 33 years, bear hunting in New Jersey resumed on a limited basis in 2003 and 2005 in response to a bear overpopulation crisis that threatened public safety and resulted in a rash of terrifying bear attacks on humans in the Garden State.  Despite these limited hunts, bear-human confrontations remain at unacceptably high levels, and bear sightings have been recorded in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties. An ongoing program of responsible, limited bear hunting is the only available tool that will immediately reduce the bear population to the levels necessary to ensure public safety.  During intense grilling by New Jersey’s Supreme Court during the anti-hunt extremists’ failed attempt to stop the 2005 hunt, even their own lawyer was forced to admit that limited hunting is a viable option to control bear population, contradicting his clients’ longstanding, false position that New Jersey’s bear hunt was nothing more than a trophy hunt.  Please contact Governor Jon Corzine and New Jersey DEP Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson today and express your support for a 2006 black bear hunting season as part of New Jersey’s comprehensive bear management policy.  Your personal safety and sporting heritage cannot be left in the hands of anti-hunting extremists!  Act today!  Governor Corzine can be reached by phone at (609) 292-6000, (856) 614-3200, or (973) 648-2640, fax (609) 292-3454, via e-mail at <http://www.state.nj.us/governor/govmail.html>, or send a letter to:  Office of the Governor, PO Box 001, Trenton, NJ 08625.  DEP Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson can be reached by phone at (609) 292-2885, fax (609) 292-7695, e-mail at <http://www.nj.gov/cgi-bin/dep/contactdep_general.pl>, or send a letter to:  Office of the DEP Commissioner, 401 E. State St., 7th Floor, East Wing, P.O. Box 402, Trenton, NJ 08625-0402.

VIRGINIA
The Loudoun County Friends of NRA Committee invites you to attend its annual banquet and auction.  This event includes a live auction, silent auction, games, raffles, and prize drawings.  Proceeds benefit The NRA Foundation and provide funding for shooting-sports-related grants.  Come out and join your fellow NRA supporters for an evening of fun while raising money for Friends of NRA.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 9, at the Leesburg Holiday Inn-Carradoc Hall, 1500 East Market Street, in Leesburg.  Tickets are limited and are on sale now, $40 per person and $70 per couple.  Sponsorships are also available.  For additional information or to purchase tickets, please contact Brooke Berthelsen by phone at 703-267-1354 or by e-mail at [email protected].

WASHINGTON
Jefferson County commissioners will be considering a proposal on Monday, November 6, to make it easier to prohibit shooting and hunting in the county.  Existing county law requires affected residents to sign a petition requesting a no-shooting zone before Commissioners can consider its creation.  The proposal would allow government officials to initiate the process of prohibiting shooting in the county and allow county employees to request restrictions on shooting based solely on the undefined standard of “significant enough” population density.

To date, there is no indication that there have been safety-related problems in the county or that there has been a problem in creating no-shooting zones where there is a justifiable need.  There have been reports of discussions in the last year, however, regarding the creation of very expansive no-shooting zones which would include large chunks of the county encompassing rural areas, private farmland, and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) land currently open to shooting and hunting.  The November 6 proposal would seem to pave the way to implement such restrictive ordinances.  Your attendance and participation at the November 6 public meeting to discuss the future of shooting and hunting in Jefferson County is crucial!  The meeting will be held at 10 a.m., in the Commission chambers on the ground floor of the County Courthouse, located at 1820 Jefferson Street in Port Townsend.

This attempt to make it easier to impose restrictions on law-abiding shooters and hunters is similar to efforts NRA has been monitoring in many counties throughout the State of Washington.  It appears that people are becoming fed up with the negative aspects associated with an urban lifestyle and are causing population shifts to historically rural counties.  But then when they get there, these newcomers find there are characteristics of rural life they aren’t accustomed to or don’t like (firearms and shooting, for instance) and they work to impose their urban mind set on the rural traditions of their new area.  It is absolutely critical that firearm owners, shooters and hunters turn out for this meeting! Although it is scheduled to start at 10 a.m., NRA recommends you arrive at 9:30 a.m., as there will likely be many anti-shooting advocates there trying to fill the seats.

NRA ILA

Established in 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the "lobbying" arm of the National Rifle Association of America. ILA is responsible for preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals in the legislative, political, and legal arenas, to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
