California: Anti-Gun Bills Continue Advancing in Sacramento

Anti-gun legislation continues advancing in Sacramento. On June 30, the Assembly Public Safety Committee will hear Senate Bill 948, while the Senate Public Safety Committee will hear Assembly Bill 2047. Bills Scheduled for June 30:

Senate Bill 948, to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committee, would dramatically expand California’s Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) requirements by mandating a minimum four-hour training course beginning in 2028, including live-fire exercises and state-prescribed classroom instruction. Criminal misuse of firearms is not the result of insufficient government mandates, yet this bill imposes additional regulatory burdens on law-abiding citizens while doing nothing to address crime.

Assembly Bill 2047, advanced by the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday and now to be heard in the Senate Public Safety Committee, targets 3-dimensional printers by restricting their sale or transfer unless equipped with so-called “firearm blueprint detection algorithms.” The bill represents a broad attack on lawful technology and raises concerns about free speech, innovation, and the rights of law-abiding Californians.

Bills Advanced by Senate Public Safety Committee on June 23:

Assembly Bill 1810 significantly tightens the state’s oversight of licensed firearms dealers by expanding the Department of Justice’s authority to remove dealers from the state’s centralized list. The bill creates mandatory removal for dealers who fail to meet licensure requirements and discretionary removal for those who fail to remedy inspection violations within 90 days.
