With deadlines looming, the Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to hold a second hearing on Vermont’s omnibus bill package next week. Sen. Baruth has introduced an amendment to this bill that would ban the carrying of firearms in bars, restaurants, and hotels across the entire state along with any establishment that serves alcohol. Please use the TAKE ACTION button below to urge the Senate Judiciary Committee to oppose H. 606 and oppose the expansion of gun free zones amendment.
H. 606 was introduced as a package of anti-gun bills. As originally introduced, H. 606 would:
- Expand the categories of prohibited persons
- Ban the possession of machine gun conversion devices and “rapid fire devices”
- Expose the entire firearms industry including manufacturers and dealers to frivolous lawsuits brought by the state
H. 606 underwent substantial revision in the House Judiciary Committee, and many of the sections most dangerous to the rights of peaceable gun owners were dropped in the version that passed the House. Sen. Baruth’s amendment is massive reversal of that progress.
NRA-ILA will continue to monitor the developments on H.606 throughout the session and fight for the rights of peaceable gun owners across the Green Mountain State.
