This week, both the House and Senate will consider companion bills that will further limit the availability of handguns on the roster for purchase. On Tuesday, February 24th, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee will hear SB 830 and Wednesday, February 25th, the House Judiciary Committee will hear HB 1339. Please use the Take Action button below to contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE this legislation.
SB 830/HB 1339 hands sweeping authority to the Attorney General to dictate which handguns can be sold in the state, including retroactive reviews aimed at purging models already on the roster. Using vague, undefined criteria, it mandates costly and extensive testing by the Maryland State Police or unnamed agencies, with fees imposed to cover expenses. Additionally, it diminishes the Handgun Roster Board to record keepers, stripping away any oversight and paving the way for arbitrary restrictions on your firearm choices.
Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for future updates as the session progresses.
