Connecticut: General Assembly Adjourns Sine Die

On Wednesday, June 4th, the Connecticut General Assembly adjourned sine die from the 2025 legislative session. While this is usually a time for gun owners in Connecticut to breathe a sigh of relief that the attack on their Second Amendment rights is over, your action is still needed! Last week, as NRA previously reported, the Firearms Industry Liability Bill (HB 7042) passed the Senate and was sent to Governor Lamont for his consideration.

Please click the “Take Action” button below to contact Governor Lamont and urge him to VETO HB 7042!

HB 7042 allows civil causes of action to be brought against firearm industry members who allegedly fail to establish, implement, or enforce “reasonable controls,” as defined by the bill. This legislation has the potential to bankrupt local firearm industry members through a litany of lawsuits, inflating business costs in such a fashion that it severely limits opportunities for gun owners to lawfully purchase firearms, ammunition, and components.

In some good news, anti-gun House Bill 7137 (HB 7137), which would have expanded prohibiting categories for certain misdemeanor crimes and juvenile offenses, failed to advance to the House floor for further consideration; however, several pro-gun bills also failed to advance.

House Bill 7194 (HB 7194), which would have clarified the provisions concerning the discharge of firearms in the case of self-defense or in lawful defense of another person, passed favorably out of the Joint Judiciary Committee, but failed to advance to the House floor.

House Bill 7052, which would have raised the magazine restriction limit from 10 rounds to 15 rounds, passed favorably out of the Joint Public Safety and Security Committee, but was referred to the Joint Judiciary Committee where it was never given further consideration.

NRA would like to thank the numerous NRA members and Second Amendment supporters across Connecticut who testified in committees and maintained contact with their lawmakers during the 2025 legislative session. NRA will return to Hartford for the 2026 legislative session. Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates regarding your Second Amendment rights.
