North Dakota: Firearm Carry Enhancement Bill Heads to Governor's Desk

On Tuesday, April 15th, the House concurred with Senate amendments on House Bill 1588 with a vote of 87-4. It will now be transmitted to Governor Kelly Armstrong's desk for his consideration.

House Bill 1588 enhances your rights when carrying a firearm for self-defense in North Dakota. HB 1588 removes the obligation of reporting to law enforcement upon any contact that you are carrying a concealed firearm when doing so without a concealed carry permit. The bill also reduces the penalty for carrying at a public gathering from an infraction to a noncriminal offense of $100. Additionally, the bill authorizes the State Board of Higher Education the ability to allow guns on school property and in buildings as well as other positive improvements to the state's concealed carry laws.
