Texas: House Committee to hear Second Amendment & Firearms Legislation!

On Monday, the House Homeland Security, Public Safety & Veterans' Affairs will hear multiple bills relating to the Second Amendment and firearms. It is vital that you use the Take Action button below to contact your committee representatives and urge them to support these bills!

House Bill 259 (Hayes)

Removes short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns from the list of prohibited weapons in Texas. These items would still be regulated under the National Firearms Act at the federal level.

House Bill 1337 (Isaac)

Provides universal recognition of out-of-state carry licenses, bringing Texas’ LTC law into line with the permit-less carry law which applies equally to non-residents.

House Bill 1794 (Tepper)

Removes the prohibition on the possession of firearms by licensed concealed handgun carriers on the premises of polling places on election day or during early voting.

House Bill 2470 (Virdell)

Lowers the age of eligibility for a License to Carry a handgun from 21 to 18 in light of recent court decisions on 18-to-20-year-olds purchasing and possessing firearms. As a matter of practice, DPS is currently accepting LTC applications from and issuing licenses to this age group; this would bring statute into line with this policy.

House Bill 3053 (Virdell)

Prohibits a municipality or county from adopting or enforcing an ordinance, order, or other measure in which the entity organizes, sponsors, or participates in a gun buyback program.

House Bill 3428 (Tinderholt)

Requires TABC to sanction businesses which improperly post 51 percent signs prohibiting handgun carry, to list 51 percent businesses which are required to post such signage on their website, and to display a phone number to report violations on such signage.

House Bill 4201 (Schatzline)

Removes prohibited locations in the Texas Penal Code for License to Carry holders carrying firearms concealed.

Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for future updates on this legislation as session progresses.
