Virginia: Four Gun Bills to be Heard in Firearm Subcommittee on Thursday Evening

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 16th, the House Public Safety Subcommittee on Firearms will hold a public hearing on four firearm related bills. HB 1597 and HB 1660 seek to limit your Second Amendment rights through additional restrictions on law-abiding citizens. HB 1559 and HB 1569 are pro-gun bills that seek to clarify requirements for concealed handgun permits and reduce costs for law-abiding persons associated with permit fees. With an anti-gun majority on the committee, it's critical that Virginia's gun owners and Second Amendment supporters get involved today by contacting the committee and urging their opposition to HB 1597 and HB 1660 and supporting HB 1559 and HB 1569 by clicking the TAKE ACTION button below.

Anti-Gun Bills Being Considered

HB1597 mandates a one-size-fits-all approach to firearm storage and imposes criminal penalties for lack of compliance. While the NRA advocates for the safe and responsible use of firearms, government mandates without consideration for individual circumstances and needs are not the solution.

HB1660 redefines "trigger activator" to mean a "conversion kit, tool, accessory, or device designed to allow alter the rate of fire." This vague and ambiguous definition could be broadly interpreted to implicate many common firearm accessories, including any trigger upgrades and modifications.

Pro-Gun Bills Being Considered

HB1559, introduced by Del. Williams, clarifies the current law concerning Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) renewals and reiterates that an individual seeking to renew a CHP does not have to undergo additional competency testing or training.

HB1569, introduced by Del. Wiley, reduces the fee for a Concealed Handgun Permit for individuals from $50 to $25 and for law enforcement agencies from $35 to $10.

Again, please contact members of the committee today by using the TAKE ACTION button.

Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for further updates as these bills progress.
