California: Deadline to Register or Modify “Assault Weapons” is Rapidly Approaching

The deadline for gun owners to register their firearms as “assault weapons” or modify them to be compliant with the restrictions that resulted from SB 880 and AB 1135 (2016) must be completed by 11:59:59 P.M. on June 30, 2018.  NRA opposed these bills because gun registration inevitably leads to gun confiscation.

NRA is continuing the fight against recently enacted gun control laws in the Golden State by supporting ongoing litigation efforts. In the case of Villanueva v. Becerra, challenging the regulations that accompany the Assault Weapons Control Act, an order  was recently issued denying the petition to invalidate CA DOJ’s illegal “assault weapon” registration regulations.  For California gun owners, this decision means that gun owners who possess newly classified “assault weapons” are subject to DOJ’s “assault weapon” registration regulations and have until June 30th to take appropriate actions for compliance. Attorneys in the case are working on an appeal.

To help gun owners understand the requirements of this law, NRA and CRPA attorneys have prepared comprehensive webinars and additional guides which are available by clicking on the links below:
