A young boy spotted a burglar inside of their Claysville home just before 1 a.m. Tuesday and told his father, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint said the homeowner got his gun and went looking for the intruder. When police arrived, the resident was aiming a pistol at 21-year-old Brandon Champe, who was on his knees with his hands on top of his head in the upstairs hallway, according to court papers. "I'm glad that he protected himself and used his gun when he had to," Richard Morgan, a neighbor, said. "And I think he kept us all safe. Police said Champe was drunk and they believe he entered where a pane of glass had been pulled from the frame. "This is a good town," Morgan said. "We have a lot of good people, they look out after each other." Champe has been charged with burglary and public drunkenness.
