New Mexico: Beware of "Fake News" Regarding HB 50!

Remain Vigilant Against Bloomberg-Driven Gun Control Effort

Late last week, instead of voting on House Bill 50, the New Mexico House referred the bill back to the House Judiciary Committee.  Contrary to any rumors you may have heard, this does NOT mean the measure is dead!  Advocates for the bill would like nothing more than for concerned gun owners to stop contacting lawmakers in opposition to the legislation.  The truth is, that with proponents of HB 50 outnumbering opponents on that committee, it can be re-written and brought back to the House floor for consideration at any time.

Even if you've already done so, please contact your state Representative again and let them know you don't support ANY version of HB 50.  Also, be sure to point out that all 33 sheriffs in the state continue to oppose the bill because it's ineffective public safety policy and unenforceable.  To locate who represents you, click here.  Also, please contact your state Senator and urge them to oppose Senate Bill 48, the similar measure which is still pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee.  We will notify you if and when a hearing is scheduled on that piece of legislation.

New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg's national gun control organization, Everytown for Gun Safety, continues to push this measure every day at the Roundhouse, and they won't give up until the session gavels to a close on March 18.  They have poured nearly a quarter of a million dollars into New Mexico to push for restrictions on the sale and temporary transfer of your personally-owned firearms -- even to people you know, such as non-immediate family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.  And in their desperation to pass anything, they continue proposing amendments to water down their own bill in an effort to secure enough votes to pass it!

Again, please contact your state Representative and ask them to oppose ANY version of HB 50. Be sure to contact your State Senator and urge them to oppose Senate Bill 48 which is still pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
