On Tuesday, February 7, House Bill 1091 passed the South Dakota House of Representatives on a 66-1 vote. HB 1091 now moves onto the South Dakota State Senate for consideration.
HB 1091 provides clarity over the renewal process of regular South Dakota pistol permits. As of now, current code is silent on how a regular pistol permit holder in South Dakota can renew his permit. HB 1091 will allow the holder of the regular permit to carry a concealed pistol to renew the permit for a period beginning 90 days before the permit expires. HB 1091 will make the renewal process of a regular permit similar to that of the South Dakota enhanced permit.
