Connecticut: Two Anti-Gun Bills Pass Committee and Head to House Floor

This week, two anti-gun bills, House Bill 5054 and House Bill 5623, both passed the Joint Committee on Judiciary and will now go to the House floor for consideration by the full House of Representatives.  Both HB 5054 and HB 5623 are large omnibus bills that threaten both your Right to Keep and Bear Arms as well as your Fifth Amendment right to due process.  Please contact your state Representative and politely urge them to oppose these bills.  Please click the “Take Action” button below to contact your state Representative!

These bills would require the recipient of an ex parte temporary restraining order to surrender their firearms to the police or a licensed dealer within 24 hours of being served with an order.  This ex parte order strips the accused of their Second Amendment rights and would be issued by a judge based solely on a brief statement of an accuser before the accused can appear in court to defend themselves against the allegations.  Often these orders come with no allegations of criminal behavior.  These bills clearly go against an individual’s right to due process and present a real threat to gun owners across Connecticut.
