The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Wednesday backed off a proposal to ban a type of armor-piercing bullet amid fierce opposition from Congress.
In a statement, ATF said it received a flood of critical comments on its draft rule to ban the sale or production of the steel-tipped 5.56 mm round and would put the proposal on hold.
