Illinois: Threats Remain as Spring Session Winds Down

As the Illinois General Assembly enters the final weeks of the spring legislative session, law-abiding gun owners must remain vigilant. While one extreme anti-gun measure has stalled, HB 4471/SB 2801, the "Glock Ban" is alive and a serious threat to gun law-abiding gun owners.

HB 4471/SB 2801, formally known as the "Responsible Gun Manufacturers Act" bans popular semiautomatic pistols, particularly Glock-style designs. The bill prohibits the manufacture and sale of certain handguns that are “readily convertible” to fully automatic fire. Rather than focusing on prosecuting criminals who illegally modify and misuse firearms, Illinois anti-gun Democrats are once again attempting to punish law-abiding manufacturers and gun owners for the actions of criminals.

HB 4414, the Ammunition Serialization bill, appears dead for this Spring Session. This onerous proposal would have required all handgun ammunition manufactured, imported, sold, or even possessed in Illinois to be serialized starting January 1, 2027. It would create a massive government registry tracked by the Illinois State Police and impose a tax of up to five cents per round to fund the bureaucratic nightmare.

Illinois gun owners should continue monitoring these bills closely through the end of the Spring Session, the upcoming veto sessions, and into the new legislative session beginning in January 2027. These are critical times when anti-gun politicians often try to ram through their agenda at the last minute.
