In a big win today for Virginia hunters and sportsmen, House Bill 1237 was reported favorably by the House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee by a 12-10 vote, and now goes to the House floor. We expect a House floor vote on HB 1237 as early as Monday, and it is crucial that you call and e-mail your Delegate TODAY and urge him or her to support HB 1237 WITHOUT amendment.
HB 1237, sponsored by Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-15), repeals the ban on Sunday hunting on private lands with written permission from the owner - while still prohibiting hunting within 200 yards of a house of worship and the hunting of deer with dogs. This important pro-hunting legislation will encourage hunter retention and recruitment by allowing busy families the ability to teach hunting to the next generation, since school and sport activities often dominate Saturdays for children. Currently, Virginia is one of only six states in the nation that strictly bans hunting on Sundays. Contact your Delegate today and respectfully ask him or her to vote for HB 1237 without amendment to repeal this antiquated ban.
