Mississippi: DeSoto County Board of Supervisors to Continue Hearing Public Comment on Revised Firearms Ordinance Later This Month

Friday, November 9, 2012

Based on concerns raised and input by local gun owners, sportsmen and your NRA-ILA, the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors revised their proposed ordinance that originally would have restricted the possession, as well as the discharge, of firearms in greenways, parks and other recreational areas managed by the county. The revised ordinance was initially put forth for public comment in October. The revised ordinance now focuses only on the reckless discharge of firearms in these areas and does not attack self-defense rights, law-abiding concealed carry permit holders or individuals legally transporting firearms in their private motor vehicles.  A copy of the revised ordinance can be viewed here.

The County Board will continue to take public comment on the revised ordinance at their meeting on Monday, November 19.  This meeting will take place at 9:00 am in the DeSoto County Administration Building located at 365 Losher Street, 3rd floor, South Wing, in Hernando.  You may also email comments on the revised proposal in advance of the hearing to your County Supervisor by clicking here.

We appreciate the Supervisors' willingness to listen to and address the concerns of the NRA-ILA and local NRA members, as evidenced by important revisions to this proposed ordinance
