A homeowner in Harris County, Texas noticed an unfamiliar car pull into his driveway around 3:30 p.m. Having been the victim of a burglary the day before, the homeowner retrieved his .45-caliber pistol and went to investigate. As he confronted the trespasser he noticed the criminal was carrying some of his property. When the homeowner ordered the criminal to stop, the criminal drew a tire iron and advanced toward the homeowner. The homeowner fired twice at the trespasser, who fled to his car in order to retrieve his own gun. The burglar was followed by the homeowner who fired at the criminal again, causing him to flee in the car. As he was making his getaway, the burglar crashed into a building and died at the scene. Police noted that the homeowner acted appropriately, with Harris County Sheriff’s Sgt. Felipe Rivera stating, “He has a right to protect himself and his property.”
