As the South Carolina General Assembly winds down for the year, two NRA-supported bills are advancing.
On Wednesday, May 20, the Senate amended House Bill 3483, the Right to Hunt & Fish Constitutional Amendment, making the language more effective for protecting
The Senate also took up Senate Bill 593 on Wednesday. This legislation, as originally passed by the Senate, sought to allow Right-to-Carry permit holders to keep a firearm in their vehicles when on school property. The House amended the bill last week to allow anyone who is lawfully transporting a firearm in their vehicle to be able to do so while on school property. When the Senate took up S 593 on Wednesday, there were attempts to further amend the bill. As the debate went on, however, and time for this session began slipping away, the Senate voted to not concur with the House language. This means that the Senate rejected the House language and insisted the bill be returned to the state it was in when the Senate originally passed it. The House then withdrew its amended language, accepted the original Senate bill, and it is now in the hands of Governor Sanford.
