After being defeated in the House Judiciary Committee earlier this month, State Representative Blake Oshiro (D-51), author of House Bill 2999, had stated that he would bring the bill back to the Judiciary Committee after he gathered more support for the bill.
HB2999 would have banned the sale and possession of .50 caliber BMG rifles and ammunition, required firearms dealers to include a gun lock with every firearm sold, and required ammunition purchasers to prove they own the firearm for which the ammunition is being purchased. The bill also would have included unnecessary restrictions on gun shops, and a list of other restrictions.
This week, after overwhelming opposition from both NRA and Hawaii Rifle Association members, the House Judiciary Committee has deferred HB2999 and Representative Oshiro has said that he will not be bringing the bill back up for a vote.
Thank you for contacting the members of the committee and voicing your strong opinions in defense of our Second Amendment rights.
