This week LD 1579, introduced by Senator Ethan Strimling (D-8), was voted down by the members of the Criminal Justice & Public Safety Committee by a unanimous decision. This insidious proposal would have banned hundreds of so called semi-automatic "assault weapons" as well as all .50 caliber rifles.
The Joint Committee on Criminal Justice & Public Safety voted 6-4 today in opposition to LD 333. LD 333 would have ended gun shows as we know them in Maine by eliminating private transfers of firearms.
