Connecticut lawmakers have dropped language from a firearms safety bill that would have required the buyers of rifles, not just handguns, to get permits for their purchases. Gun control advocates, who spoke in favor of the registration requirement at the Capitol, said they will continue to push for passage of laws requiring permits for rifles, shotguns and other long guns.
